Calling to or from Norway?
The Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) has clarified the rules governing which phone numbers can be presented as caller IDs for outbound call centre traffic to Norwegian recipients.
If your organisation makes outbound calls to Norway, it is important to ensure that the caller IDs you use comply with these requirements.
What has changed?
Nkom (The Norweigan Communications Authority) has clarified that Norwegian mobile numbers cannot be used as caller IDs for outbound call centre traffic. This applies regardless of whether your contact centre is located in Norway or another country.
The clarification is intended to reduce caller ID misuse and help maintain trust in Norwegian phone numbers.
Who does this affect?
These requirements apply if you:
- Make outbound calls to recipients in Norway.
- Use your own Norwegian phone numbers as caller IDs.
- Purchase Norwegian caller IDs through our service.
Using your own caller IDs
If you configure your own caller IDs in Enreach Outbound, you are responsible for ensuring that they comply with applicable Norwegian regulations.
In particular:
- Do not use Norwegian mobile numbers as caller IDs for outbound call centre traffic.
- Use an appropriate alternative, such as a Norwegian geographic (fixed-line) number or another permitted business number.
- If your contact centre is located outside Norway but calls Norwegian recipients, the same rules apply when presenting Norwegian caller IDs.
Ordering caller IDs through Enreach Outbound
If you order Norwegian caller IDs through Enreach Outbound, please be aware of these restrictions.
To comply with Nkom's guidance:
- Norwegian mobile numbers are not available for use as outbound caller IDs for call centre traffic.
- Available caller ID options may therefore be limited to number types that comply with Norwegian regulations (such as 5-digit numbers or numbers in the 815 range).
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a Norwegian mobile number if I own it?
No. According to Nkom's guidance, Norwegian mobile numbers should not be presented as caller IDs for outbound call centre traffic, even if they belong to your organisation.
Does this apply if my contact centre is outside Norway?
Yes. The restrictions apply when presenting Norwegian caller IDs to recipients in Norway, regardless of where the calls originate.
Can I use a foreign phone number instead?
In many cases, yes. A foreign caller ID may be presented, subject to your carrier and local regulations. However, displaying an international number may reduce answer rates compared to using an appropriate Norwegian business number.
